General Referendum Committee Adopts Results of Referendum on 2024 Constitutional Amendments

Doha, November 05 – HE Minister of Interior and Chairman of the General Referendum Committee Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, announced that the project for constitutional amendments to the permanent constitution of the State of Qatar received a popular approval rate of 90.6% of the total valid votes.

In a statement issued tonight, His Excellency explained that the referendum results showed a participation rate of 84% of eligible citizens, with 89% voting in favor of the constitutional amendments, 9.2% not in favor, and 1.8% of votes being invalid.

His Excellency said that The general referendum on the constitutional amendment project to Qatar’s permanent constitution was conducted with a strong turnout from Qatari citizens, pursuant to Decree No. (87) of 2024, which called on citizens to participate in the referendum, in line with the vision of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to enhance popular participation in public affairs, strengthen national unity, and contribute effectively to the promotion of consultation, justice, and the rule of law. The referendum results showed an 84% turnout of eligible voters, with 89% voting in favor of the amendments, 9.2% not in favor, and 1.8% of votes deemed invalid.

His Excellency said that with this outcome, the constitutional amendment project to the permanent constitution of Qatar has achieved a popular approval rate of 90.6% of the total valid votes.

The statement added that the General Referendum Committee seizes this opportunity to extend its sincere congratulations to HH the Amir of the State on this significant national accomplishment. The committee also commended the widespread public participation of citizens in the referendum process.
